The Ashley Madison Hack
The Ashley Madison hack was a famous website, called ashleymadison.com, which supported committing extramarital affairs and adultery. The website promised complete privacy and secrecy of information and membership. But, hackers wanted to show the world that adultery was immoral, so they breached the website and released the information of all people using the service, such as email addresses, names, and credit card information.
How Does This Affect Society
Because people's personal information was leaked, many lives and families were affected. This event showed that it is extremely easy to steal your information and that there is no real privacy on the Internet. If anybody really had the desire they could ruin your life by hacking into your computer and stealing your private information.
How Does This Affect the Members
Members of the site who had their information leaked were not promised their privacy. Their lives with their families were ruined and some resorted to committing suicide because of the stress.
How Were Families Affected
Families were broken apart because they figured out someone was cheating. Some people died because of this.
How Does This Affect Me and What Can You Do To Prevent It
After seeing what this hack did to all those people, I realized that my information may not be as private and safe as I thought. To me, privacy is just a cover of the truth, the fact that your information can be stolen readily by anybody. I can protect myself by using antivirus, setting up a firewall, and not giving out information that can readily identify me.
